Nursing education to continue at Cardiff University
Following pressure from the RCN and other unions, Cardiff University has put plans to close its School of Nursing on hold as it considers an alternative proposal.
The new proposal means that adult, child and mental health nursing programmes would remain but many teaching roles would still need to be cut. RCN Wales will be seeking guarantees that there remain enough academic staff to continue to deliver world class research and education.

This webinar aims to promote the importance of health and wellbeing of self and the team. Learning outcomes include: Define and understand what health and wellbeing is and what it means to you, your team and the organisation you work for; Appreciate the legal implications; Appreciate the professional expectations; Identify sources of support available to you and strategies you can use.

The latest on the Fair pay for Nursing Campaign in Wales
In November 2024, 72% of eligible RCN Wales members working for NHS Wales voted to reject a 5.5% pay award from the Welsh government. The pay award applied to the 2024-25 financial year. Read the news story in full here.
RCN Wales has called on the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Jeremy Miles, to engage in urgent talks toward pay restoration.

Right now, hospital patients in Wales are waiting on trolleys or chairs for hours on end, in pain and suffering, in corridors, ambulances, and rooms where safe care isn't possible.
This is not normal. No part of our society should consider it acceptable. The Welsh Government must act.
