Fair Pay For Nursing

Fair Pay for Nursing: take action today

NHS pay award 2022-23

The Scottish government is not seeking a recommendation from the NHS Pay Review Body (PRB) for a pay award in 2022-23 and have agreed to hold direct negotiations with the RCN and other health trade unions.

While the NHS PRB has not been asked to make a recommendation in Scotland, we will be drawing heavily on the RCN’s evidence to the NHS PRB in the negotiations - find out more about the RCN’s PRB evidence

The Scottish government’s response will indicate what it believes members outside the NHS deserve to be paid. We are clear that there must be parity of pay and other terms and conditions for all nursing staff, regardless of employer.

Once negotiations develop a pay offer or, if no offer is reached and separately the Scottish government makes an offer, eligible members will be asked if it is acceptable.

How late is this year's NHS pay award?

The nursing profession is left waiting once again

Fair Pay for Nursing campaign

Nursing is the largest safety-critical profession in health care, playing a vital role in patient safety. Despite this, nursing remains understaffed and undervalued.

After years of underinvestment the Scottish government must act urgently to protect patient care by protecting the profession.

The Fair Pay for Nursing campaign is about:

  • Recognising that salaries of nursing professionals has consistently fallen behind the cost of living and must now rise significantly to reflect that
  • Valuing the knowledge, skills, responsibilities and experience demonstrated every day by nursing staff.
  • Ensuring that nursing is seen as an attractive, rewarding profession to tackle the tens of thousands of unfilled nursing posts across the UK.
