The formal notice and agenda for a General Meeting of the RCN have been published.
The online event, being held from 11am on Friday 27 November, will enable members to discuss the issues raised following the disqualification of two candidates in the RCN presidential elections.
The General Meeting was called after a petition related to the disqualifications obtained the requisite thousand signatures.
The petitioners’ position will be presented by Linda Bailey, following a statement from Chair of RCN Council Dave Dawes. RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary Dame Donna Kinnair will also speak.
There will be a discussion and questions, before members vote on two resolutions.
The first resolution seeks to enable the two-year term of office for the RCN President and Deputy President to be extended for up to six months in exceptional circumstances, which requires a two-thirds majority.
The second resolution calls for a comprehensive review of the governance of the RCN, to be led by RCN Council, and requires a simple majority.
Members who want to attend the meeting will be sent a link in advance. Those not able to attend will be able to cast their vote by proxy via a link in an email sent to all members on 5 November.
RCN Council wants to ensure that the meeting is secure and can only be accessed by members, and that any member who wishes to do so will be able to speak on camera at the meeting.
This presents a significant technical challenge given the size of the RCN membership. We’re working hard to develop a solution over the next week and will keep members updated.
